The Italian Garden- western end of Eastbourne promenade
Bob & Carol Conrad - 22/3/2012
Spotted approx 10.30am when descending tarmac footpath down to western end of promenade by The Italian Gardens above Holywell tearooms. We were able to study it for approx 2 minutes before it went off into undergrowth. We know nothing of any significance about lizards but were struck by its vivid green and black patterned body, about 15-20 cms long with a slender tail and appeared to also have a small diamond/triangular shaped greyish patterned area on the top of its head. Googled it when we got home and discovered it's fairly rare outside Europe/Channel Islands/Dorset (perhaps it's taking a spring break in sunny Eastbourne - we hope the seagulls don't get it !)
St. Ouen coast, by the quarry.

I saw four in total, two male and two female, keeping warm under the sheets of metal.
